There's a wealth of good restaurants within easy reach of Pégon. Within 5 mins: La Ferme Flammande - for good value plat du jour at midday or for evening meals.

10 mins away: Le P'tit Caprice at Vouhé, La Crémaillère at Courçon for regional specialities or Le Ronsard and La Roma Pizzaria and many others at Surgères.

Within 25 mins:
La Rochelle has restaurants in abundance with 'Moules frites' and 'fruits de mer' specialities - or try the restaurants in the Marais Poitevin with regional specialities such as eels, leg of lamb, goats cheese and haricot beans.

The Surrounding Area

This is the ideal spot for those who enjoy the peace and tranquillity of rural France: it is close to the forest of Benon and also on the edge of the Marais Poitevin or 'Venise Verte' National Park - punts are available for hire at various locations for anyone wishing to explore the waterways. It is, however, only half an hour from the sea and the historic town of La Rochelle where sea cruises are possible - 15 minutes from the busy town of Niort; 1 hour autoroute from Futuroscope and within easy reach of:

Cognac: where you can visit brandy distilleries
Saintes: with its Roman Amphitheatre
Rochefort: a town famous for its naval connections
St Jean D'Angely: which lies on the banks of the river Boutonne
Surgères: The birthplace of Helene, the woman who inspired Ronsard's love poetry
Niort: Very good for shopping and sightseeing eg: Richard the Lionheart's Keep

Shopping

The nearest town, Mauzé-sur-le-Mignon (3km) has a variety of small shops, a really good 'Intermarché' supermarket, a twice weekly market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings, with a really big market on the 1st Wednesday of every month.

Surgères (11km) has 3 supermarkets, plus the full range of small shops. The large monthly market is held on the 3rd Tuesday of the month. Surgères is also a main line station for the TGV train, offering day trips to Paris (approx 21/2 hours).

A baker also calls at Pégon three times a week on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays at approximately 9.30am. Home-made jam and chutney are available on sale from the owners

Golf

There are several 18 hole golf courses in the region: La Rochelle,Mazières-en-Gatine, Menigoute or our local course at Niort, visitors are always welcome.
